Before the process began we were shown an add for Camlin permanent marker .. .. we had to write a short analysis on it .. 

Case Analysis:
Amit is a management trainee .. He is really good at his work (was a star salesman in his first year at the company) but according to some confidential report he doesn't listen to seniors ... Now there's a vacancy for a higher post for which Amit has applied.. But the company isn't sure what to do .. Promote Amit? Promote someone else from the company? Or hire an outsider ?

So what should the company do??

I could have spoken more than I did (that's twice  ) .. Age old problem of finding space to enter a GD ..  

Personal Interview and Extempore:
2 panelists ... A lady (who seemed very interested) and a gentleman (who seemed least interested .. )

Questions were:

1. Tell us something about yourself
2. What motivates you?
3. Any recent popular incident that disturbed you a lot ?
4. Would you like to make any changes to the Camlin ad shown to you?
5. Can u think of some different idea for that add ?
6. So you passed out in 2010.. have you been working any where ? 
7. What if SIBM doesn't take you this year?
8. But wouldn't a 2 year gap also hamper your chances at civil service examination ?? (in ref. to my ans to que...
9. So you said you liked listening to bollywood music ? But don't you think they come up with some really senseless music nowadays ?

I messed up in qns. 5-8 ...  gave pretty decent answers for the others .. Not at all satisfied with my PI performance.

Extempore topic was "Individual freedom and civil society" 2 min to think and 1 min to speak ... Thankfully spoke well here ..  

Group Discussion:
Topic: Homosexuality should be legalized.
This was better than the Case study .. Spoke 3-4 times with good points .. 

So overall it was quite an average performance ..   
Thank God I wasn't asked engg. questions .. Otherwise it would've been a disaster 

Guys think over the ad from all aspects ... Even if u don't pen down all your thoughts in the analysis, be ready for PI questions like:

• what would you want to improve in the add ?
• some other idea for it ?
• was it right/ethical to show whatever was shown ?? .... and the likes ..

Group Discussion:
For GD we had a case study about Emami's latest launch of a fairness cream for men for which they had roped in Shahrukh Khan for it's ad campaign.. The ad depicted that fair skin can get a person both a successful career and the girl of his dreams. This has not gone down well with majority of Indians since most of them are brown skinned.. They are of the opinion that this promotes racial discrimination.. What do u think about it .. ??

• So what did the person who just went out tell you about the questions being asked? 
• I told about the I Kherlanji massacre and "why do u want to shift from Engg to HR ?" questions that the guy before me was asked .. (Mentioning Kherlanji here was my biggest mistake .. ) 

• So what do u know about the Kherlanji case?
• Why do u think you should take HR ? Please don't say that you are good at dealing with people, you are good at motivating people...
• If you want to make the employees happy you just have to pay them more.. but you'll be working for a company and that'll mean a loss to the company .. so does the role HR fit in ?
• You like reading fiction .. which all authors have you read ?
• Did you like The Da Vinci Code ?
• Why did it get into a controversy ?
• What exactly in the book did the catholic community did not like and why ?
• You passed out in 2010. So why did you not go for a job ? 
• Where else have you applied ?
• What do you think your chances are in CET ?
• How much did u score in CAT? 
• Tell me something about Dr. Ambedkar...? What did he do for women empowerment...?
• What did Mahatma Jyotirao Phule did for girls ?
• Since you are a science student tell me what is science ?

1. So you are interested in HR ... Who is the HRD Minister of India? Tell us something about his works and achievements ..
2. Let's do a role play. I am the CEO and he (person sitting next to him) is HOD. You are the HR head. He hasn't been performing well and I need you to fire him
   
   When I was firing the concerned person, he refuted by saying that the CEO is biased, the company did not take care of his training, he will take legal action if he is sacked. The panelists were industry people.
